My Teaching Philosophy:

I am very passionate about teaching, my goal is to enhance all students playing ability and overall enjoyment of the game by teaching a swing that is more efficient and easier on the body. My teaching philosophy caters around the student’s learning style. Some students like to keep it as simple as possible while others like to know how everything works. Either way,I am committed to making them a better player. While it takes some students more time to achieve the results they desire, I do not necessarily believe a student should or will get worse before they get better. My goal of each lesson is to achieve better results that day while building a foundation for long-term success. It’s important to understand the cause of poor results, but more importantly, how to effectively fix them. Through the use of video, drills, and teaching aids my students will learn how to improve their game.

Robert Speaker, PGA

Robert has been at Deer Creek since 2000. He entered the PGA of America program in 2002 and has served Deer Creek as Assistant Golf Professional, Head Golf Professional, Director of Golf, and General Manager. He now serves as a liaison between the owners and the various Green Fairways Inc. properties.

Before turning professional Robert taught 32 years in the public school system. He retired from Prairie State College as a full Professor in 2000.  Robert has both Bachelor and Masters Degrees in Education. During his first years of teaching, he coached High School golf and tennis at Bloom High School. At the College level he started the National Junior College Athletic Association (NJCAA) Golf program at Prairie State College.  His teams reached national ranking and he qualified golfers for the National Junior College Championships.

My Philosophy of Teaching Golf

The basics of the golf swing can be learned with instruction and proper practice. My many years of teaching have made me a very patient instructor. Beginners and intermediate golfers are my specialty and I strive to get them on the golf course, having fun and improving, as quickly as possible.  Beginning lessons need not be expensive – the use of expensive teaching aids for beginners does nothing but increase the the cost of the lessons.    I believe, the necessary information to help beginning golfers improve at golf can be accomplished by using pertinent instructional tools and imparting key knowledge to the student.  You can get much more information about me and my teaching philosophy on my website listed below.

I have talked with golfers who have taken lessons from well known instructors and felt that it was money wasted.  Instructors, in evaluations, have often been called “GOD-LIKE” and an “IDIOT” by students (sometimes in the same group lesson).  We know this from all the teacher/student relationships we have endured in our lifetimes – Instructors and students need to be compatible for success to happen.  This is the reason I offer a FREE 20 minute lesson.  If, I don’t want you as a student or you can’t learn from me – why spend a lot of money and time to find out.  This is not a money back guarantee – The first 20 minutes costs nothing but our time and a small bucket of driving range balls.  Contact me for more information!
